How We Got Our First English Version of The Bible

NEARLY 500 YEARS AGO

Nearly one hundred years before Columbus discovered America, there was a boy named John Gooseflesh, living in the old town of Mainz. His mother helped to make a living for the family by preparing parchment for the priests to write on. John liked very much to carve and cut with his knife. One day he was sifting beside the fire watching a pot of purple dye that his mother was heating and amusing himself by carving and cutting his name in wood. Suddenly one of the pieces of wood, with a letter cut on it, fell into the dye pot. He snatched at it, caught it, but dropped it again, this time onto a piece of parchment lying nearby. “What If”

What if God couldn’t take time to bless us because we couldn’t take time to thank Him yesterday?

What if God stopped leading us tomorrow because we stopped following Him today?

What if God took away the Bible tomorrow because we didn’t use it today?

What if God took away the message because we didn’t listen to the messenger?

What if God stopped loving because we stopped loving others?

What if God stopped hearing us today because we didn’t listen yesterday?

What if God answered our prayers the way we answered His call to service?

WHAT CAN I DO WHEN I’M AFRAID We all have experienced being afraid at times. Some people are afraid to ride elevators, others are afraid to drive a car because they might have a wreck, others are afraid they are going to die, of which all must face death, whether we are prepared to face death or not.
