Security of the Believer

“For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God.” This is the most important thing about the security of our salvation, is that it is obtained by grace.
Adam and Eve were created as perfect individuals that were free to make their own choices. They were under the law from God not to eat of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. They were free moral agents to choose to obey or to disobey the command given to them by God. There was a condition set before them by using the term “if”. This allows Adam and Eve to make a choice to do right or to do wrong.

BASIC CHRISTIANITY L4

SCRIPTURAL BAPTISM Baptism is a divine command (Acts 10:48) and is included in the Great Commission. (Matt. 28:19-20). The Bible mentions water baptism in 77 different verses. In any serious study of the New Testament baptism, four questions must be answered:

I. WHY IS BAPTISM IMPORTANT?

  1. There are only two ordinances given by Christ for every believer to observe: Baptism and the Lord’s Supper. Of these, Baptism was given first and is mentioned about ten times as often in the New Testament.
  2. It is commanded by:
    a. Christ (Matt. 28:19-20). It is part of the Great Commission.
    b. Peter (Acts 10:48) (cf Acts 2:41)
    c. Phillip (Acts 8:38) d. Paul (Acts 19:1-7)
  3. Jesus chose to be baptized and publicly to show us that we should be (Matt. 3:15). Read the rest of this entry »

when in doubt about God?

And Jesus answering saith unto them, Have faith in God. For verily I say unto you, That whosoever shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe that those things which he saith shall come to pass: he shall have whatsoever he saith. Therefore I say unto you, What things soever ye desire, when you pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them.

DEACONS

The Church that Jesus started during his personal ministry on earth has two officers. The officers of the Lord’s Church are Pastors and Deacons. The Bible makes reference to pastors as bishops or elders. This article deals with deacons. Deacons are to be servants of the Church and not rulers of the Church; however, Deacons are to be be leaders. Without leadership in any organization, whether in a church, club or athletic program, we usually find chaos. Deacons are first mentioned in Acts 6:1-6. Read the rest of this entry »

WHAT IS A BAPTIST?

THE HISTORICAL ORIGINS OF THE BAPTISTS.

* Historically, Baptists find their origins in the Free (Anabaptist) Churches. These churches existed from the time of the apostles. Even though the name BAPTIST was not used until the 1600’s, the Baptist distinctives were practiced by small, persecuted groups during the Dark Ages and the Reformation.
* Biblical faith and practice forced these to separate from two powerful traditional groups.
1. The Roman Catholic Church – This group eventually rejected all of the Baptist distinctives. When their persecution ended, they became the persecutors. Read the rest of this entry »
